Dearest and Most Wonderful Backers—

First off: SO many thank you's to everyone who came out to the closing party in Portland. It was such a thrill to see you all in person and celebrate together—easily one of the happiest nights of my life.

I'm writing this from my phone in Iceland, where I've been holed up for a artist's residency for the last couple weeks, but when I'm back in front of my real computer I'll share some video of the campaign countdown and some of the delightful demons people drew at the closing party. You are all so, so excellent.

Now, ON TO BUSINESS:

We're coming up on two weeks from the close of the campaign, which means Kickstarter has collected the money you all so generously contributed to making this thing happen and it will be in my account very soon! This means I'll be able to start paying for the fulfillment services and putting downpayments towards plushies and books, which is GREAT.

The next step of the project that involves you is getting all your surveys sent out via BackerKit so you can input your shipping details, order extra merch, and update your payment information if you happened to miss the Kickstarter deadline. Keep an eye out for thosse in your inbox this coming week, and fill ’em out as soon as they arrive! (Don't worry, you'll have plenty of chances to change your mailing address before the actual ship date, so if you move or what-have-you we've got you covered.)

I'll send another update this week once the surveys are out to make sure you all get them, and to share more images from the closing party. For now, I've included a collage of paintings and photos from my time in Iceland. It's been great, but I'm excited to come home and start making books for everyone!

As always, you are the best. Thank you for believing in this project, for your kind words of support, and for coming together as a community to make this happen.

Any questions, just drop me a line.

Love from the frigid North,

Lucy

It's the FINAL COUNTDOWN.

Hi Friends!

So here we are, on the very last day of the campaign, and I'm thrilled to report that we've officially more than DOUBLED OUR GOAL!

Here's how I feel about that.
Here's how I feel about that.

This means I'll be able to pay myself for the time I spent drawing this project and doing all the production work (about 300 hours!) and have a cushion for the coming year, which will allow me to focus full-time on my next creative project. I owe you all an enormous debt of gratitude, which I hope to repay by making more neat creative things for you to enjoy.

 So let's celebrate!

Join us for the Kickstarter Wrap Party tonight at Base Camp Brewing (out on the patio) in Portland from 8-10pm. (You can RSVP on Facebook here if that's your bag.) Minors are welcome, and there's food carts right next door if you want to grab a bite before coming over to meet the demon plush, take a look at the original art from the project, aaaaaaand...complete your own demon drawing! I made these nifty worksheets with a variety of options for giving a voice to your own inner jerks:

If you can't make the party, but still want to participate, you can download these PDFs for free right here and print your own at home.

Those of you following along from other parts of the country/world are all welcome to tune in to the Kickstarter Live event, which runs from 9:30-10pm PDT so we can all count down the last moments of the campaign together. I couldn't have done any of this without all your enthusiasm, support, and encouragement, so I'd love to have you all there for the conclusion.

Big thanks to everyone who's drawn and submitted their own demons over social media already. I haven't had time to compile every entry, but here are a few! They're all so moving, funny, and fierce. I love seeing them.

Anyway, I need to get back to rushing around on the web to do final campaign promotion, but again: thank you all so much for an incredible past few weeks. I can't wait to celebrate with some of you this evening, and keep you updated on what's happening with the book in the weeks to come.

Stay tuned!

Wrap Party Invitation
almost 7 years ago – Wed, Jul 26, 2017 at 07:25:36 PM

Hello, lovely backers—

I'm writing because we're nearly at the end of the campaign (where does the time go?!) which means it's time to celebrate all your efforts in making this thing happen! (It's also my birthday tomorrow, so I figured why not throw two parties in one.)

If you're in Portland, OR, come along to the Base Camp Brewing Company outdoor patio next Monday, July 31st from 8-10pm for a group hangout. Base Camp is all-ages friendly till 10pm, so younger friends are welcome, and there are delicious food carts right outside for those who want to get dinner. I'll bring the demon prototype so you can all discover just how soft he is (VERY SOFT) and maybe even some original art.

Here's the poster with all the details:

If you're a Facebook user, you can RSVP right here, or just show up on the day!

"But wait," I hear you cry. "I'M NOT IN PORTLAND."

Never fear! You can join us for the last 30 minutes of the campaign via a neat feature called Kickstarter Live. It's an online video stream where you can tune in and join us at the party, ask questions, release glad cries of victory, and other stuff. That'll go live at 9:30pm and last until the end of the campaign at 10.

This link will take you to the live stream.

I am so absurdly grateful to each and every one of you. We've got about five days to go and are just two people(!) short of 1,000 backers. I am overwhelmed and delighted and very much looking forward to crafting some stellar books and treats for you all.

As always, any questions just drop me a line here or via email: [email protected]

With love and gratitude,

L

The Plush Prototype is Here (and He's Perfect)
almost 7 years ago – Fri, Jul 21, 2017 at 12:44:22 AM

Hello, Demoneers!

I was up pretty early this morning. Soft Stuff Creations informed me a couple days ago that our plush prototype had arrived from the factory and was being overnighted to my address in Portland. They told me the truck would show up by 10:30am, but I say the early bird gets the worm, so I started pacing in front of the door at 7.

So patient
So patient

Sure enough, around 8:30, that tell-tale truck-y rumble came down the street and stopped outside. I felt my heartbeat go through the roof, chugged an entire glass of water while screeching "BE COOL BE COOL BE COOL" in my head, and then managed not to tackle the delivery guy to the ground so I could tear the envelope from his grasp with my teeth, which I consider to be a massive accomplishment.

The doofiest
The doofiest

Those of you who watched me rip the bag open live on Instagram will note that I couldn't actually look directly at it when I took him out for the first time because I was TOO NERVOUS, but I am happy to report that upon subsequent inspection I determined that he's PERFECT.

YAAAAAAAAY
YAAAAAAAAY

Here's a little intro video I posted online today where you can see how all his limbs waggle around and hear me wax rhapsodic about how soft his fur is (spoilers: VERY SOFT) and witness the cathartic glory of flinging him over your shoulder when he gets on your nerves. (Also apologies for wearing a black shirt I really didn't think that through—I promise there will be better photos against lighter backgrounds soon.)

So he's here! And he's great! And the campaign is still ticking up and up which means so much to me I can't even tell you. I can't wait to produce a full run of these suckers.

"Ugh, I can't believe you like this band," he seemed to say
"Ugh, I can't believe you like this band," he seemed to say

Thank you all so much for believing in this project, throwing your dollars behind it, telling your friends, and sending me such amazing stories of your own inner jerks.

Speaking of which, I'm soliciting fan art! If you have a voice who tells you you're no good (and chances are, if you're backing this project, you do), what does it say to you? Would you draw me a picture? I'd like to feature a bunch of your renditions in the next update. You can send them to me on Twitter or Instagram (my username is @LuBellWoo on both) or via email at [email protected].

You're all the best, and I'm looking forward to the next ten days of campaign fun before we get down to business and make the books happen.

More soon,

Lucy

P.S. Mark your calendars for the evening of Monday, July 31st! We'll be having a big ol' closing party here in Portland, and also streaming live through Kickstarter for the last half hour of the campaign so everyone can join in the fun. More details TBA.

And away we go!

Hello, wonderful humans.

I just wanted to write and thank you all for welcoming this project to Kickstarter with such rapturous enthusiasm. I am truly overwhelmed and humbled by how well this first five-day stretch has gone. We’ve blown past the production funding goal (and the “Make Sure Lucy Can Pay Her Taxes” goal!), which means these demon plushies and book collections are definitely in our future. I CAN’T WAIT!

So what’s new? A couple things:

1. Many people have inquired about being able to purchase more than one book or plushie to gift to friends, enemies, therapists, etc. which is EXCELLENT. To make this easy I’m partnering with BackerKit, a stellar company who assist with campaign logistics, to provide a simple add-on reward interface after the close of the campaign.

Basically: after this all wraps up, BackerKit will be sending you a survey where you can enter your shipping information to receive your rewards. At that time you’ll also be able to select as many additional books and plushies as you’d like, pay the balance, and the whole lot will be shipped to you as soon as production is complete. Hooray! Maximum flexibility.

2. If you’re a retailer who’d like to get some copies of the book at wholesale cost, check out the newly-added Retailer Special tier. It’ll help you get books in bulk for your comic shop or bookstore (which is pretty much my favorite thing). Got a local shop you love? Send them a link to the campaign!

 3. Finally, if you resonated particularly hard with a specific entry in the 100 Demon Dialogues series, you can now own it as an nice art print. Buyolympia have the entire run up in their store right here.

(And if you backed the campaign and you’re SO EXCITED AND YOU JUST CAN’T HIDE IT, I made this folder of demon wallpapers for all your digital devices. Wear your enthusiasm with pride.)

Thank you again for all your kind words about the project and the campaign. I am overjoyed to be sharing this with so many people, and looking forward to sharing the production process with you all.

Any questions or concerns, feel free to drop me a line through Kickstarter or via email at [email protected].

YOU’RE THE BEST!

❤️ Lucy

P.S. If you’re feeling really gung-ho about all this and would like to lend a hand, I’m always thrilled to see folks pass my work along to people they think will find it entertaining or useful—especially over the next couple weeks as the initial surge of Kickstarter action mellows out. Got a friend who struggles with imposter syndrome? A family member with anxiety? Send them a link to read the comics or check out the campaign.
